Langkawi island is one of the most popular island in Malaysia and which is situated 35 km off the north-west of Malaysia. Langkawi island has commonly known as “Jewel of Kedah” and the name itself means “The Place of Immense Beauty” which is definitely true. Langkawi island is located close to the equator therefore the island enjoys consistent temperature and perfect climate which make it possible to visit Langkawi island throughout the year.
Can setting foot on 2 islands really be considered island hopping? That’s the kind of philosophical question comes up in everyone mind when you decided to visit Langkawi , what island hopping in Langkawi make it so popular across Malaysia.
While Walking down Pantai Cenang, Langkawi’s main back-packer beach, You will be struck by 2 things. First one the excessive number of jet-skis and banana boats, this was about as far from a relaxing tropical beach as you could get. Second, almost everywhere You looked a sign would magically appear advertising an island hopping tour. One can pretty impressionable at the best of times, so obviously these ads eventually broke you down, and before you knew it that you was heading for some hopping.
At RM30 one can booked the hopping tour which weren’t exactly high. You can be pleasantly surprised by the size of the boat and its quality, that was pretty small and they didn’t try to squeeze too many people in. You can find average 10 people on any boat which isn’t off the beaten path at all but it was a pleasant kind of mass tourism.
The best thing about island hopping in Langkawi is the area itself as the entire island is surrounded by limestone mountains rising from the sea. One can never get sick of views like that. Another best thing you would really liked about the trip was that it was quick and to the point. One can finished the entire island hopping trip in one day, as you’re only on a short holiday it’s great when an activity doesn’t take up the whole day.
First Stop: Tasik Dayang Bunting (Pregnant Maiden Lake)
This island is the first stop of hopping tour, This is Langkawi’s largest freshwater lake and, when passing by the island, it resembles the outline of a pregnant lady lying on her back. The island is shrouded in mystery, as the lake is thought to possess mythical powers. Women are believed to have become pregnant from drinking the water. On arrival on the island you are immediately welcomed by a mob of wild monkeys that are waiting to be fed. And if they don’t get anything they simply try to meddle with your clothes and bags.
What to do.
Here you can swim, rent a paddle boat or just relax and watch the nearby countryside
Second Stop: Pulau Beras Basah
This island is a delightful tourist trap. Clear, warm waters on white sandy beaches. There are no bathrooms or change rooms here instead you have to walked into the jungle to change behind palm trees, which didn’t offer much cover. So wear your swimmers to the island! You can hire snorkel equipment and other items at a little hut on the beach. It was delightfully warm and despite the swelling number of tourists, it still felt perfectly isolated.
What to do.
Here you can do snorkeling, swimming, relaxing and seeing lots of colorful fish.
Final Stop: Eagle Watching
The last stop on the island hopping in Langkawi tour was the island Pulau Singa Besar to watch some eagles being fed where you made a short stop off the coast and could watch wild eagles in the air. They could be fed with small pieces of meat when you throw them in the air and then the eagles go for the prey. That’s it. Actually, it didn’t knock my socks off.
